Facebook ยท Guide 3 of 10

Managing and Growing a Facebook Page

Once a Page is set up, the work is steady and fairly simple: post things people want to see, answer messages quickly and keep the comment section tidy. This guide covers the routine that keeps a business Page useful to customers and visible in the feed.

Posts That Work

Facebook ranks posts using signals about who posted, what kind of post it is and how likely each person is to interact with it, according to Meta's Transparency Center. Content that holds attention and starts conversations travels furthest. Formats that tend to work for local and service businesses include:

  • Short vertical videos posted as Reels, such as a job from start to finish or a dish being plated
  • Photos of real work, real staff and real customers (with permission), which tend to earn more attention than stock images
  • Offers and seasonal promotions with a clear deadline
  • Answers to common customer questions
  • Events with dates, such as open houses, classes or tastings

Posts that send people off Facebook through a link have historically reached fewer people than posts that keep them on the platform. Put the link in the first comment or the Page's action button when reach matters more than clicks.

A Posting Rhythm

Consistency matters more than volume. A schedule a business can keep for a year, such as two or three posts a week with at least one video, beats a burst of daily posts that stops after a month. Meta Business Suite lets you plan and schedule posts for Facebook and Instagram together.

Events and Groups

Facebook Events give people a way to mark themselves interested or going, and send them reminders. Use them for anything with a date and a place. A Page can also create or join Facebook Groups. A group built around a shared interest, such as a running club for a sporting goods store, can become a loyal community, though it needs regular moderation.

Messages and Automated Replies

The inbox in Meta Business Suite collects Messenger messages, Instagram DMs and comments in one place. Customers who message a Page expect a fast answer, and slow replies cost bookings. Automated tools help cover the gaps:

  • Instant reply A greeting sent the moment someone messages
  • Away message A reply sent outside business hours saying when you will respond
  • Frequently asked questions Tappable questions with saved answers, such as prices, hours or parking
  • Saved replies Reusable answers for common questions

Comment Moderation

Comments shape what new visitors think of the business. Use the moderation settings to hide comments with profanity or chosen keywords automatically, and hide or delete spam as it appears. Answer genuine complaints publicly and briefly, then move the details to private messages.

Boosting a Post

The Boost button pays to show an existing post to more people. It is quick, but offers fewer choices than Ads Manager, especially for goals like leads or website bookings. Boost a post that already performs well organically to stretch its reach. Use Ads Manager when the goal is inquiries or sales.

In Practice

Consider a neighborhood bakery that posts a 20-second Reel of the morning bake every Tuesday and Friday, lists its weekend pop-ups as Events and sets an away message with its hours and preorder link. Messages that once sat unanswered overnight now get an instant reply, and preorders start arriving through the inbox.
