SEO Basics and Realistic Timelines
Search engine optimization is the work of making your website and business listings the best answer to the searches your customers make. Google ranks pages it can read, understand and trust, so SEO comes down to four things: a site that works, content that answers questions, signals that other sites trust you and, for local businesses, a strong local presence.

Technical Health
Google needs to crawl and understand your pages. Broken links, slow loading, pages blocked by mistake, duplicate content and poor mobile layouts all limit rankings before content is even considered. Google's Core Web Vitals measure loading speed, visual stability and responsiveness, and they are a published ranking consideration.
Content That Matches Intent
Each page should answer one clear search need. A dispensary wants a page for each product category, a page for each store and guides for the questions customers ask before visiting. Writing for the search behind the page, with clear headings and real detail, beats stuffing keywords into generic copy.
Authority
Links and mentions from other reputable websites tell Google your site is trusted. These are earned through useful content, partnerships, press and directories, and they take time. Buying links from low-quality sites can lead to penalties.
Local Search
For businesses that serve an area, the Google Business Profile and map results often matter more than the website. Categories, photos, reviews, hours and consistent business details across the web drive map visibility.
Realistic Timelines
Technical fixes can show results in weeks. New pages for low-competition searches often rank within one to three months. Competitive terms usually take six months or more, and authority keeps compounding. Early signs of progress are more pages indexed, more impressions in Google Search Console and rankings moving from page three to page two before clicks arrive.
Our clients have seen search visibility grow several times over within a year. The pattern is consistent: fix the foundation, publish useful pages and keep going.
In Practice
A dispensary in Chicago Heights had a menu embedded in a way search engines could not read. We rebuilt category pages as readable pages, added store and deals pages and fixed slow loading. Impressions in Search Console rose steadily for months before clicks followed, and within a year organic visits had more than doubled.
Any guarantee of a number one ranking should be treated as a warning sign. No one controls Google's results.
