Three Steps Behind Every Result

Google finds pages by following links and sitemaps, a process called crawling. It stores what it finds in an index. When someone searches, it ranks the indexed pages it considers most useful. SEO is the work of making each step easier: letting Google find your pages, understand them and judge them worth showing.

Signals Google Rewards

Three things, broadly. Relevance, which means your page clearly answers what the person searched. Authority, which means other credible sites reference you and your business is well established online. Experience, which means the page loads quickly, works on a phone and is easy to use. Google's own guidance stresses creating helpful content for people rather than for search engines.

The Shape of SEO Work

Technical work makes sure the site can be crawled and loads fast. On-page work matches each page to the searches it should answer. Content adds pages for the questions customers ask. Link building earns references from other sites. Local SEO manages your Google Business Profile and listings. Most businesses need all five, in proportions that depend on their situation.

Realistic Timelines

Technical fixes can show results within weeks. New pages typically take two to four months to settle. Competitive rankings build over six to twelve months. Anyone promising first page rankings in weeks is describing something other than SEO.

Putting This to Work

SEO is an asset you build, and it keeps paying after the work is done. That is the trade for its slower start compared with ads.

In Practice

A dental practice adds a page for each treatment with clear explanations, photos of the office and answers to insurance questions. Within four months the implant page ranks on the first page for searches in its city.
