TikTok Ads Updates in 2026
Every TikTok advertising change this year, with what it means for businesses running ads in the U.S.
In October 2026, TikTok opened its off-platform TikTok Ad Network to U.S. advertisers, buyable through Smart+. If you run Smart+ campaigns, check whether the network is switched on and review results by placement before leaving it on.

The ownership change that dominated TikTok news in early 2026 did not interrupt advertising. Ads Manager, campaigns, pixels and creative kept running when the U.S. business moved to a joint venture in January. The changes that matter for advertisers came later in the year: new automated search ads through Smart+ and the opening of TikTok's ad network beyond the app to U.S. advertisers.

TikTok Ad Network and Search Ads Campaign (October)
TikTok opened TikTok Ad Network, its network of partner apps outside TikTok, to advertisers targeting U.S. users, and said advertisers can choose or block specific apps (Adweek). TikTok also introduced Search Ads Campaign powered by Smart+, which automates search ads across keywords and creative while keeping keyword targeting, bidding and search budget controls (PPC Land).
What to check. Off-platform placements can lower costs while producing lower-quality clicks or leads. Review results by placement, and compare leads or sales from network placements with those from TikTok itself before keeping them on.
New Premium Formats (March)
At its 2026 NewFronts presentation, TikTok introduced Logo Takeover, a co-branded placement when users open the app, Prime Time, which runs a sequence of ads during high-engagement periods, and a buy combining TopView and TopFeed for one-day reach (Marketing Dive). These are bought through TikTok's sales team and suit large brand campaigns more than local or small business advertising.
U.S. Joint Venture (January 22)
TikTok's U.S. operations moved to TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, a majority American-owned company. Ads Manager, Smart+, existing formats, pixels and the Events API kept working through the change. The joint venture's mandate includes U.S. data security and retraining the recommendation system on U.S. data, which advertisers should watch for shifts in delivery or performance.
What to check. Review any data processing agreements or privacy policies that name TikTok's U.S. entity, and keep an eye on campaign performance trends through 2026 as the recommendation system is retrained.
